Fascination with people is the mainspring of my efforts. I attempt to give them life
using a roadmap of techniques developed from an awareness, that our busy city becomes a magnet when it captures the essence of my work. Early drawings on small canvas covered wood panels were applied on large canvases. I begin a piece by planning a drawing of the urban scene. My present method emerged when I hand cut 3/8" foam-core figures, applying them onto various building façades. Vivid acrylic paints support the buzz of sounds on city streets. Gray shadows or lines which appear on my work are cast by the depth of panels or foam-core images. A painting is done when I feel completion and I can talk to people in the scene. Is it not remarkable that so many New Yorkers come from everywhere, with energy and hope to join the rush of activity? I hear their many voices and listen to the pulsating beat of their footsteps, the beat of the city I love.
